The poster shows the extent of the Southern Rail network with the shields of the counties above and the county towns on the map. The crests of the main French ports are also shown, giving a discreet nod the important cross channel holiday business Southern Rail wished to promote.
The colours of the poster remain deep and vibrant – it’s a remarkable example of lithographic printing. The fabric of the poster shows its age with numerous small tears, nicks and creases which were stabilised on the reverse side with archival tape before the poster came into our possession – photos available on request
