British Made: Barbara Acton-Bond

Barbara Acton-Bond, a British designer, has been designing and making unique necklaces for over seventeen years.  And all of this work has been carried out in her London studio, where it is peaceful and full of inspiring artwork, beautiful music, and a furry, faithful companion, crunching on a bone while curled up on her beanbag.

All the materials are natural, many are antique and most are quite unique. Barbara flies all over the world to track down wonderful, unusual beads with fine, fair trade craftsmanship.
The silver used comes from Thailand, the Karen hill tribe people who use a pure, 98% silver, and craft each bead as though it were a piece of sculpture. The silver is fair trade, and the entire family gets involved in the work, which means a decent support for these superb artists.
The stones are chosen because they are full of authentic, vibrant colour, and effectively carved and shaped.  Treatment to stones is important, often leaving them unpolished to bring out textures and patterns of natural stones. Even inclusions give a stone interest.

Each element in each, individual necklace is chosen with enormous care to create a harmonious, rich, eye-catching necklace.  And because they are one-off designs, the new owner will have the satisfaction of knowing no one else will have the exact same necklace.
They are often described as wearable art.
